Touch-Screen "Voting" Machines Come To Salina

My letter to The Salina [Kansas] Journal, responding to today's front-page article:

Dear Editor,

Your front-page article on the new "voting" machines contains not a word about which company manufactures them. Complete silence on how such machines are being used to help steal elections around the country, most notoriously the Presidency in 2000 and 2004. The contrivances are being taken out like a beloved elderly member of the family for visits to Republicans, Democrats, the Senior Center, and civic groups. Saline County's Clerk is recording a 4 - 5 minute video for Cable Access TV. A federal grant-how nice, "somebody else" is paying for those things. No facts, like how easy it is to hack the machines and the lack of a sound audit trail, to blur the public relations campaign with even a glimmer of a reality check. A surround sound of warm fuzzy feelings.

Thank you Salina Journal, may we have another serving of the Purple Kool-Aid that symbolizes the loss of the right to have one's vote counted, the latest lockstep toward the death of democracy? I'm sure Uncle Joe Stalin would be proud of you, and that George Orwell would say, "I tried to warn them".

For anyone interested in maintaining at least the illusion of a shred of democracy, insist on a paper ballot.

Sincerely,

Terry L. Clark
