Mr. Terry Lee Clark

Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, HR 4239. Your concerns are very important to me.

On November 4, 2005, Representative Thomas Petri (R-WI) introduced HR 4239. This legislation prohibits individuals from intentionally damaging an "animal enterprise" or any connected entity. An animal enterprise is a commercial or academic enterprise that uses or sells animals or animal products for profit, food or fiber production, agriculture, research, or testing. This definition also includes zoos, aquariums, animal shelters and pet stores. HR 4239 also requires any individual who harms, endangers or threatens a person associated with an animal enterprise or connected facility to be subject to criminal punishment. HR 4239 was referred to the House Judiciary Committee where it awaits further action. I will certainly keep your comments in mind should this bill come before the House for a vote.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me regarding HR 4239. Please continue to contact me regarding any matter of importance to you and our district.

Sincerely,

MIKE THOMPSON
Member of Congress
