Slave Of The State

There are wire service articles about a Nebraska couple, Ray and Louise Spiering, who, on religious grounds, object to their newborn Melynda being subjected to blood testing for various conditions.

Besides the problems noted in my letter to the editor of various newspapers, below, there is the additional inevitable fact that, should anything turn up in the blood tests, the government will next proceed to tell the parents what medical treatment their child will receive--or the government will take Melynda from her parents, and the government will then become the parent, the owner, the Master, God.

However, making multiple points in a letter to the editor decreases the chances that it will be published.

Dear Editor,

Attempts to force newborn Melynda Spiering to undergo government-mandated blood testing well illustrates the future this precious young lady faces if we do not stand up to the increasingly totalitarian government that asserts dominion over every aspect of our existence.

Thomas Jefferson wrote, "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"--not the other way around.

The act of birth does not empower government ownership or enslavement of any human being.
