The Banana Republic Of Los Angeles

Pattern and practice

Re "LAPD takes a beating" (May 3):

When will the people of Los Angeles take their city back? Beatings by the Los Angeles Police Department over the decades, particularly of minorities and of poor people, are legendary, while Hollywood celebrities continue to get the red-carpet treatment. The Los Angeles Animal Services Department slaughters a horrific number of innocents every year, refusing to work with rescue groups beyond giving lip service.

The recent attack on the participants, journalists and spectators of the immigrants-rights march is but the latest in an ongoing pattern and practice of a concerted policy of governmental violence.

Original version, which I think better shows the long historical pattern of violence, below.

The important thing is that the diluted/printed version connects the violence at the LA death camps ("Shelters" my a**) and the violence in the streets.

I gave the LA Times the first shot at the letter, emailing it to them on May 3rd, but I haven't heard from them or seen it published there.

Dear Editor:

When will the people of Los Angeles take their city back?

The LAPD actively helped cover up the murder of Senator Robert Kennedy. Their beatings over the decades, particularly of minorities and of poor people, are legendary, while Hollywood celebrities continue to get the red carpet treatment. The Los Angeles "Animal Services" department slaughters a horrific number of innocents every year, refusing to work with rescue groups beyond lip service. The recent attack on the participants, journalists, and spectators of the immigrants rights march is but the latest in an ongoing pattern and practice of a concerted policy of governmental violence.
