Pelosi's "High Ethical Standard"

Add political banishment to the list of problems confronting Rep. William Jefferson, ensnared in a bribery scandal that fellow Democrats hope to turn to their election-year advantage.

"Democrats are determined to hold a high ethical standard," the party's leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, said Thursday night after engineering a 99-58 vote of the rank and file that stripped Jefferson of his seat on the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee.
SF Chronicle, June 16, 2006

Hummmmm, does that mean that Pelosi is ready to stand up to the most corrupt Presidency in US history? Not a chance!

Ok, but surely “high ethical standards” encompasses strong opposition to the US war for oil and empire, right? Because stealing, because invading another country to expand US power, kidnapping, torture, and so on, these are all bad things, right? Uh, no:

Pelosi said she stood by the plan promoted by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., which calls for a redeployment of troops "over the horizon" as soon as is practically possible.
SF Chronicle, June 14, 2006

What is the “Murtha plan”? As I said before on Barbara Boxer, who is practically interchangeable with Pelosi:

[C]ontinuing the slaughter of innocent Iraqis, no problem with the New Crusades, no problem with stealing *our* oil that is under *their* sand...she just wants it done in a more efficient manner so that fewer Americans are killed and it thus becomes more politically palatable.

“High Ethical Standards”? At best, call Pelosi “Bush Lite”.
