A Tale Of Two Utility Companies

Now if the same thing had happened in Humboldt County California under the leadership of PG&E, how long would it have taken them to pull their head out? A little example of how amazing it is that people put up with such lousy utility "service" in California, while rural Clay Center Kansas, with two blown transformers, is up and running within the hour!

CLAY CENTER -- Two large transformers exploded at a Clay Center substation Sunday afternoon, causing Clay Center and its hinterlands to be without power for a hour.

About 5,000 people lost electricity, superintendent of utilities Bill Callaway said.

The city fired up its generators and restored power, he said. Monday, portions of the city went powerless for about 45 minutes while city and Westar officials evaluated damage.

Sunday's high temperature was 104 degrees in Clay Center. It was 102 Monday, Callaway said.
