Bike Lanes & Missing The Big Picture

From The Salina [Kansas] Journal's anonymous Extension 333 call-in line, October 27, 2006:

"It was reported we need money for public transportation. The next thing I read is about the need for a bike lane. I think money spent on transportation for the sick, handicapped or elderly is much more important than a bike lane for enjoyment."

Uh, the more people on bikes, the less our oil consumption, the less we'll need to spend on killing people to take their oil for our own luxury, the less we'll spend trying to salvage the lives of the courageous men and women who become sacrificial slaughters for the multinational oil cartel. And we can use that savings, and that increased productivity, to help the sick, handicapped and elderly--not to mention, we won't be causing more people to be handicapped.
