Maybe They Could "Treat" 'em At Walter Reed

Representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment were at Kansas State Salina Tuesday afternoon to explain Vapor Intrusion. It's part of the groundwater cleanup project at the site of the former Schilling Air force Base in south Salina.

Robyn Kiefer, Project Manager with the Army Corps of Engineers said that simply put, Vapor Intrusion is the vapor from the contaminated underground water that can seep through the soil and into buildings. She said tests of buildings in the area have shown no immediate health risk, and it could be several years before there is such a risk.

KSAL News asked Fred Molloy with the K.D.H.E. if the state feels the overall project is moving in a timely manner. He said, since he became involved within the past year, yes, that great strides have been made. Molloy said, "There has been good cooperation. A lot of good data has been gathered and evaluated which is always necessary on a project like this to insure that you're going in the right direction."

So, when does actual cleanup of the contamination begin? Vanessa Bauders, Industrial Hygienist with the Army Corps of Engineers, said a design plan should be ready in about three years.

Lies of ommission, lies of commission, and lies perpetrated due to the passive news media.

So there's no "immediate" health risk? How about long-term health risk? Gradual health risk? The Army doesn't answer those unasked questions.

It "could" be several years before there is an "immediate" effect. And it could be fewer than "several" years. In any event, isn't the upcoming three-year period in which the Army will supposedly be doing its planning "several years"?

Cleanup? Well, there should be a plan in about 3 years. What harm will people suffer during those three years? And how long will it be until the actual cleanup--no hint when it will begin--is completed? Health problems developing during that time? No questions, no comments.

So, to my friends back in Salina: Run for your lives, before the government kills you, hand-in-hand with the cowering news media.
