"Legal" Fireworks

The worth of a ban

Although Saline County law enforcement may well have more important things to do than enforce a fireworks ban, such a ban still serves useful purposes.

When groups solicit funds for Salina’s delightful annual Fourth Of July display, people will not legitimately be able to claim that they wasted their money on a private, trivial, pale imitation.

When homes and other buildings are burned down, it makes much simpler the legal liability issues — i.e. had the law been followed, the property would still be standing.

When fingers are blown off, eyes blasted to oblivion and lives are otherwise irreparably altered, the blessings of government, of society, will not have preceded the tragedy.
