Educational Police State

UPDATE: Since the news item hit several papers via the wire AP wire service, I expanded upon my post below and turned it into a letter to the editor.

From the website of KSAL Radio, Salina, Kansas:

An escalating feud between the city and school district could mean the end of police officers in Wichita schools. The fight is over who should pay for the 22 school resource officers. School officials think the district should pay only for half of the time the officers are in schools, while city officials think the schools should pay more.

This year the Salina School District agreed to foot the bill for police officers that are stationed in the middle and high schools. SROs, or School Resource Officers, have been in USD 305 since 1997, but up until this year were paid with grant money and city funds.

The Salina School District budgeted $157,000 to pay four SROs for the school term. The City pays the officers when school is not in session.

It wasn't that long ago that cops stationed in schools was something that the propagandists in the US said was one of the horrors of the old Soviet Union (USSR).

My how times have changed...

Cops in the schools, and children whacked out of their minds on sugar and mind-altering drugs (The "legal" ones--BigPharma has more effective lobbyists than lobbyists for less dangerous drugs like marijuana).
