Eureka's Newspaper War In The SF Chronicle

For those outside Humboldt County, or locals who do not follow closely the bloodfeud between the Eureka Times-Standard (a/k/a the SubStandard) and the Eureka Reporter (a/k/a the Arkleyville Gazette), the SF Chronicle, August 13, 2006, had a nice article giving an overview of the fight. Unfortunately, the article focused on the views of those in the newspaper business, with an absence of any opinions from the community.

See also my previous Posts on the Eureka Reporter, for example:

I have on occasion taken the Times-Standard to task, and will do so more often when time permits:
--Town Without Pity, Headline Without Meaning

It should be noted that the Eureka Reporter has printed every letter I have submitted, without any tampering. The Times-Standard, in contrast, has declined to print one of my letters without explanation or even the courtesy of a reply when I asked if it would be printed, and has "edited" (read: changed the meaning) of two others that they did print.
