Rest In Peace, Jerry Springer

Jerry Springer died today of pancreatic cancer, at the age of 79. The reports are that it was just recently discovered. Pancreatic cancer usually advances quickly and kills, although Steve Jobs did well fighting it until he decided to go the conventional route. It's interesting that Olivia Newton John's research institute has recently made significant advances in finding effective treatments, but it will be “years” before it can be tried on humans. Compare that with the CV1984 bioweapon...! Yeah, let's look at the skyrocketing rates and speeds of cancers for those who took one for Team Genocide.

Perhaps Jerry's rapid departure will open some eyes? We can hope.

A lot of people didn't “get” Jerry Springer. He held a mirror up to America, and America didn't look so well. His infamous Jerry Springer Show was a screaming canary in the coal mine, but instead of recoiling in horror and asking WTF had happened to this country, most just laughed and felt smugly superior.

While I'm no fan of television judge shows—they give the illusion of swift and fair justice, provide no hint of the financial and emotional expense that non-rich litigants incur, and give no hint of the behind-the-scenes machinations that render “justice” a game—Judge Jerry did a much better job than the others of showing the human side of the legal system slaughterhouse.

In saying farewell to Jerry Springer, consider looking at what he provided from a different perspective. Listen carefully, several times perhaps, not running for a lyrics cheatsheet. Where we were in earlier times, where we were when the Springer Show first aired, and where we are now. The excellent wordsmith Mark Knopfler gives a bountiful harvest for thought.
