Karl Rove Comes To Humboldt County's DA Race

Well, it certainly seems that way.

District Attorney candidate Dikeman, darn that pesky First Amendment, has protesters outside the Humboldt County Courthouse that are concerned about on-the-record comments that Dikeman allegedly (on-the-record but allegedly? Go figure) made during a 1992 criminal trial: “My experience is that Native Americans who are employed by the tribe are a little more prone to associate themselves with the culture and beliefs of the tribe … and that they are sometimes resistive of the criminal justice system.”

The May 20th story goes on to state: "But Dikeman said his quotes were taken out of context and he does not exclude jurors based on race, religion or sexual preference." Hummm, I said it, I did it, but it doesn't count?

Today's story covers the Dikeman campaign's attack on the protesters and on his opponent, but still doesn't address how Dikeman didn't mean what he said.

I thought Karl Rove had enough to do without joining Dikeman's campaign. Deny the facts, attack the accuser and change the channel.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more nor less.''

"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

''The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - that's all."
